THE BRENTLEY INSTITUTE,INC ., founded 24 years ago, with the strict purpose of providing low cost education and placement opportunities for persons deserving to work in the security management industry.
One of the Institute's main affirmative positions is that a formal college environment is not for everyone.
Until 1992, the State of Ohio allowed private security schools to administer their own “in house" examinations. Security officers were approved and certified by the State on the basis of pass/fail information provided by a particular school - the school created, administered, and graded the final examination. Many of the schools reported students scoring 95% or better on "their" final exams, as a continuous standard of proficient and professional compliance. BRENTLEY found that to be an amazing statistic. Many of these schools appeared to be in the money gouging biz, and not the educational business.
BRENTLEY spearheaded the drive for the State of Ohio to administer a standardized test that applied to all schools, which subsequently took the testing function from individual schools - there had to be some legitimacy, if the private security industry was to thrive/survive. A professional image was paramount. Among other things, this was one example of the barometer of the industry at the time BRENTLEY became operational. (1990)
THE BRENTLEY INSTITUTE is a collection of educators with many and varied experiences in the adult education field, coupled with private and public law enforcement interests. BRENTLEY has over 46 years of experience in areas that directly impact the security/loss prevention discipline.
BRENTLEY is not composed of retired law enforcement folks who are looking to supplement their retirement income. Nor are we some corporate entity, that has to go through a million meetings and "look-sees" to make a decision; something needs to be fixed - fix it now! BRENTLEY is dedicated to adult education with emphasis directed to economic issues of 2013 and beyond, as they impact the "ability to benefit", with "best practices". In achieving this educational and job placement objective, the ACADEMY endeavors to maximize optimum instructional methodologies, thus enhancing the learning process in a non-traditional learning atmosphere.
The INSTITUTE maturation process in the adult education industry has been realized over 28 years. Vocational schools must understand that there are unique qualities, teaching objectives, and specifically, a strong dedication that must be demonstrated in the "school to work" school By design, adult vocational schools must be concerned with the "total" student, in terms of family, work, finances, and the quick effort that is necessary to place the student. The goal is the workforce - training is only training, if the graduate does not become EMPLOYED!!
JOB PLACEMENT IS THE GOAL OF VOCATIONAL SCHOOLS
The educational component is only as strong or successful as the student/graduate realizes employment for which s/he has been trained.
The INSTITUTE assisted in writing the new and revised private security curriculum that to over 3 and 1/2 years to complete. In 1991, the INSTITUTE was one of 7 schools authorized by the Ohio Peace Officer Council, renamed,
the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission to administer the curricula as a test site training facility.
After 18 months, BRENTLEY, was the ONLY school in the state Ohio that continued using the new curriculum, under the auspices of the State of Ohio, and forward educational data to the Commission to consider in the drafting of the final security curriculum, and testing instrument This curriculum ultimately became the minimum academic requirements for the private security profession in Ohio.
Adult highlights for the INSTITUTE, included: assisting changing the State regulations that now allow private security candidates to sit for a re-test if they score lower than the acceptable State qualification of 70%.
The re-test procedure was once only reserved for would be commissioned police officers, correctional officers, and bailiffs, etc. BRENTLEY was the ONLY school in the State of OHIO to champion this change. Some schools were against it because they saw a window of lost revenue. BRENTLEY saw it as "do the right the thing".
The INSTITUTE was instrumental in forging ahead with such areas as Hazardous Awareness First Responder (HAZMAT) training because many business entities needed this type of safety observation/ response. BRENTLEY was the FIRST PRIVATE SECURITY ACADEMY in the State of Ohio to offer this course.
The INSTITUTE authored the required/ mandatory topic of "Cultural Sensitivity", designed to assist security personnel with an awareness/better understanding of cultural difference between human groups, and how discrimination may result in criminal/civil liability damages.
BRENTLEY will continue to change, modify curricula, as it becomes realistic and exceedingly dynamic to the placement process, AND, will continue to exceed the minimum hours for training certification.
THE QUALITY of EDUCATION is the CENTRAL COMPONENT:
The Academy expresses very strongly - a graduate of THE BRENTLEY INSTITUTE, has a decided advantage over other, graduates in private security, in that, the quality/integrity of the educational program, are Exceptional.
It is the motive of the INSTITUTE, to continue delivering the best quality education and superior training to women and men at the lowest possible cost.
Our mission/vision: REALISTIC APPROACH TO THE DELIVERY OF ADULT EDUCATION SYSTEMS that make BRENTLEY "THE GOLD STANDARD" in the DELIVERY OF THIS PRIVATE SECURITY TRAINING THE BEST IN STATE OF OHIO.
